[Also in Group XXVI] A convergent-divergent turbine nozzle is formed of two concentric parts so as to provide a quadrilateral-shaped outlet orifice, the two parts being shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and comprising a cylindrical external part 1 formed with a cylindrical chamber 2 and an outlet orifice 3 of square cross-section, and a cylindrical internal part 4 adapted to be received in the cylindrical chamber 2 and comprising a convergent bore 7 of circular cross-section and a divergent hole 6 of square cross-section, the size of the outlet of the hole 6 corresponding to that of the orifice 3 in the external part 1. After assembly, the two parts are machined off at the plane D, D, Fig. 7, making an angleαwith the centre-line of the nozzle equal to the inlet angle of the working fluid. The plane D, D passes through an outlet edge of the hole 6 in the internal part 4 and through an outlet edge of the orifice 3 in the external part 1. The orifice 3 and the hole 6 are originally formed as cylindrical and conical holes respectively and are subsequently shaped to square section.
