A slurry formulation for production of a patch or a strip of a thermal barrier coating comprising: 20-60 dry weight percent of alkali metal silicate binder; 40-80 dry weight percent of a ceramic filler comprising yttria-stabilized zirconia, magnesia, or yttria-stabilized zirconia and magnesia; 0-20 dry weight percent of an additive; and a solvent or a suspension agent, wherein the dry weight percent of the alkali metal silicate binder, ceramic fillers, and additives add up to 100%, and wherein the slurry formulation has a viscosity in a range of 50 to 5000 mPas at room temperature.
