The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for providing a floor plan of a building based on a layout of the building. To this end, by receiving basic layout information and a request of a user through a user interface unit and searching a database and an external database, which is accessible through a communication unit, based on the received basic layout information, at least one recommended interior structural drawing is obtained. The obtained at least one recommended interior structural drawing is provided to the user through the user interface unit, and an interior structural drawing selected by the user from among the provided at least one recommended interior structural drawing is added to the database. The interior structural drawing selected by the user is edited based on additional layout information provided by the user through the user interface unit. By the edited interior structural drawing, the database is updated.
