The invention relates to a combination of a hypoglycemic, i.e. metformin, and an irreversible inhibitor of gastric and pancreatic lipases in the intestine, i.e. orlistat, for controlling obesity better than by using monotherapy with each one of them; said composition providing "low" doses of both pharmaceuticals in order to minimise secondary effects and benefit from the synergistic effect of the two compounds.
