The device has a passenger detector for detecting presence of a passenger (5) on a seat e.g. movable seat (2), of a chair-lift when the seat is positioned in a detection zone (10) located after a unloading zone (1) of passengers. An alarm unit (12) produces an alarm if presence of the passenger is detected. The passenger detector includes a three-dimensional camera to realize three-dimensional images of a space located between the camera and the ground, and a data collecting and processing unit to collect and process the images and to produce an alarm signal if the passenger is detected. The alarm is a chair-lift stopping alarm, visual alarm and/or audible alarm.
