The ventilator has an oxygen pipe (5) including an oxygen source (6) at an end for supplying oxygen gas at atmospheric pressure in the pipe. A control unit (7) is connected to a computing unit (4), and located on the pipe. The control unit controls an oxygen flow. A sensor (8) is located on a patient and connected to the computing unit. The sensor measures an oxygen saturation pulse of the patient, where operation of the control unit is controlled by the measured pulse. The computing unit controls a number of revolutions of a control turbine of the control unit based on the measured pulse. The control unit is a proportional solenoid valve. The sensor is a physical sensor.
