Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for recommending content based on television viewing habits. The content recommending method based on television viewing habits according to an embodiment of the present invention includes the following steps of collecting content viewing history information of a user; generating a user profile which includes a common preference and the preference of each time based on the collected content viewing history information and metadata related to the same; and generating a content reference list based on the generated user profile.
