The present invention relates to a composition comprising an alginic acid as an active ingredient to treat or prevent osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, wherein the composition to treat or prevent osteoarthritis or osteoporosis can be a pharmaceutical composition. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a food composition comprising the alginic acid as an active ingredient to alleviate or prevent osteoarthritis or osteoporosis. The present invention has verified the optimum conditions to treat, prevent, or alleviate osteoarthritis or osteoporosis with respect to a molecular weight of the alginic acid, mannuronate, and guluronate; thereby has no side effects by comprising the alginic acid, which is harmless to the human body, as an active ingredient and can valuably be used to treat osteoarthritis or osteoporosis since the therapeutic effect for osteoarthritis or osteoporosis is also superior. |
