PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable containing a shear thickenable composition suitable for energy and communication cables which protects the cable from damage by an external force.SOLUTION: In a cable containing a shear thickenable composition, a shear thickenable liquid is contained in a cable jacket in at least one mode selected from A) the cable jacket contains a polymer material and the shear thickenable liquid is dispersed in the polymer material, B) the shear thickenable liquid is coextruded with a polymer cable jacket, laminated on the polymer jacket or dispersed in a polymer material laminated on the polymer cable jacket and C) the shear thickenable liquid constitutes a discontinuous layer as a coating on a layer in the cable or is impregnated in a base material enveloping internal components of the cable. The shear thickenable liquid is a fluid composition which shows a large or discontinuous rise of the viscosity with increasing shear stress.
