The invention relates to a method for treating heavy fuel oil on board ships, said oil being used as fuel, in particular for a diesel engine and said method comprising the following steps: a) provision of heavy fuel oil (OIL1) to be treated; b) feeding the heavy fuel oil (OIL1), which has been provided in step a) and is to be treated, into a centrifuge (7) by means of at least one pump (4), the heavy fuel oil that is to be treated being heated before reaching the centrifuge (7), at least temporarily or permanently to a separation temperature T2 in excess of 98° C; and c) separation of an aqueous phase (W) and a sludge phase (S) from a pure oil phase (OIL2) in the centrifuge (7). |
