<p>Provided are a wire electrode for electrical discharge machining, which generates a small amount of fine dust and has an improved workpiece surface roughness during an electrical discharge machining process, and a method for manufacturing same. The wire electrode for electrical discharge machining is manufactured through the steps of: providing, as a core wire, a wire material which is made of a first metal containing copper and has a first diameter; plating the core wire with a second metal; fine-wiring the core wire plated with the second metal so as to have a second diameter and simultaneously forming certain patterns of crinkles on the surface of the fine wire having the second diameter; and performing heat treatment so as to form a first alloy layer consisting of one or more phases selected from anα+β' phase,βphase, andβ' phase which are formed at the interface between the core wire and the second metal by means of inter-diffusion of the core wire and the second metal, and to form a second alloy layer of aγphase and/orεphase, which is formed at the outer side of the first alloy by diffusing the first metal toward the second metal.</p> |
