<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for generating a user profile based on periodic location fixes, and more specifically, a method and apparatus for automatically generating user demographic or marketing profiles on the basis of user location history tracked via a mobile telephone or other location-aware device.SOLUTION: Location information is captured via GPS or other capability. The location history is analyzed to detect a user's travel and dwell patterns. It can be combined with business classification or Point of Interest (POI) databases to identify a user's likely home location, work location, or other locations on the basis of dwell time, time of day, and other parameters. The user's age and gender can potentially be inferred based on types of locations visited, such as school locations.</p> |
