A shift device of the present invention includes a shift lever which is mounted in a vehicle and is automatically returned to a reference position after selecting a neutral position through a manual operation by a driver, a position detection unit which detects the neutral position of the shift lever, and a setting unit which sets a vehicle into a neutral position when the shift lever is maintained in the neutral position for more than specified time. The setting unit puts the vehicle into the neutral position even though the shift lever is placed in the neutral position several times in a specified period of time. |
