An image forming apparatus supporting a near field communication (NFC) function and a method of performing authentication of an NFC device in the image forming apparatus is provided. The method includes receiving identification information by tagging an NFC device and determining whether the NFC device is authenticated or not, by using the received identification information.

1. An image forming apparatus supporting a near field communication (NFC) function, the image forming apparatus comprising:
an NFC module to receive identification information of a user device having the NFC function by tagging the user device; and a controlling unit to determine whether the tagged user device is an authenticated device with regard to one or more image forming operations of the image forming apparatus by using the NFC function, based on the received identification information, wherein the controlling unit controls execution of one of the image forming operations when requested by the tagged user device, when the tagged user device is determined as an authenticated device with regard to the requested image forming operation.
