The present invention relates to a method for preparing a toner and the toner prepared thereby. The method for preparing a toner according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a step of adding an external additive to a toner dispersion solution. The toner dispersion solution includes toner base particles, dispersants, and dispersion media. The dispersion media are hydrophilic. The external additive has a hydrophilic surface. The toner according to one embodiment of the present invention includes: a toner core unit; a toner shell unit which surrounds the toner core unit; and the external additive which is combined with the toner shell unit.
