Methods of using WIPI-1 to impart anti-aging benefits to the skin and/or improve skin conditions resulting from reduced autophagy activity. The present invention relates generally to compositions for topical application to the skin which comprise at least one WIPI-1 agonist and the use of such compositions to provide benefits to the skin, in particular, improving autophagy activity within skin cells and in a further embodiment improving the condition and appearance of chronologically or photo aged skin.
