The present invention relates to a novel ligand compound, a preparation method thereof, a transition metal compound having the ligand compound, and a preparation method thereof. The ligand compound having a novel structure and a transition metal compound including the same, according to the present invention, can be used as a polymerization catalyst when preparing an olefin-based polymer.
