PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal assembly that establishes sealing engagement with a plurality of differently dimensioned instruments passing through a trocar.SOLUTION: A seal assembly 30 comprises: a caged seal assembly 32 having two seal segments formed of an elastic material; and an auxiliary seal assembly 34 having an annularly shaped main body 39 formed of an elastic material. The caged seal assembly 32 and the auxiliary seal assembly 34 are configured in series and oriented to receive an elongated instrument through a first center opening in a center section of the annularly shaped main body 39 and a second center opening in a center section of a circularly shaped body formed of the two seal segments. In this configuration, the caged seal assembly 32 having the circularly shaped body formed of the two seal segments and the auxiliary seal assembly 34 having the annularly shaped main body 39 are movably disposed in the seal assembly 30 and the first center opening has a larger diameter than the second center opening. |
