<p>A brake (10) includes a pair of lever brake shoes (26, 28) and a pair of idler brake shoes (30, 32). The lever brake shoes (26, 28) are each pivotally coupled to a brake spider (14) at a first end (56). The idler brake shoes (30, 32) are each pivotally coupled to the brake spider (14) at a first end (82) and to corresponding ones of the first and second lever brake shoes (26, 28) at a second end (84). The pivotal connections to the brake spider (14) may be different for each of the lever and idler brake shoes (26, 28, 30, 32). An actuating member (24) engages the second end (58) of each of the lever brake shoes (26, 28) and causes the lever brake shoes (26, 28) and idler brake shoes (30, 32) to move between positions of engagement and disengagement with a braking surface (34). The linings (54) on the lever brake shoes (26, 28) may be circumferentially nearer to the first ends (56) of each lever brake shoe (26, 28) than the second end (58) of each lever brake shoe (26, 28).</p> |
