Microwave generator and related method for generating waves

The generator (10) has a microwave generating tube extending along an axis (L). The tube includes a cathode (18) extending along the axis, an anode (26) extending along the axis and radially surrounding the cathode, a cavity (28) defined by the cathode and the anode, and a voltage source for establishing a potential difference between the cathode and the anode. The cathode is intended to emit electrons within the cavity when the tube is supplied with electrical energy, where a section of the cavity transverse to the axis varies along the axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating an electromagnetic wave.
