A thrust washer 200 for a sliding bearing is provided. The thrust washer 200 comprises: a metallic substrate layer 206 having an axial substrate face 210; and a polymer layer 208 on the axial substrate face 210 and having an axial polymer face opposed to the axial substrate face. The axial polymer face 202 is profiled and has at least one oil distribution groove 204, and one of the substrate layer 206 and the polymer layer 208 is a machined layer having a thickness that varies in correspondence with the at least one oil distribution groove 204.
