<p>An apparatus, system and method for providing a mounting platform 700 within a workpiece for mounting a machining tool. The platform comprises a plurality of engagement members 702,703 that are configured to be movable between a retracted configuration and an extended configuration for engagement with the interior of a workpiece. The movement of at least one of the engagement members is manually controllable and movement of at least another of the engagement members is effected by an automated actuation mechanism. The platform can be used for mounting such machining tools as an orbital miller. The workpiece can for example be the flange face of a pipe, the root end of a wind turbine blade or other such thin-walled workpiece. The platform can clamp the interior of the workpiece without causing damage or deformation to the workpiece by using a combination of the manually and automatically actuated rams. The automatic actuation can be a hydraulic mechanism and the manual actuation can be a screw mechanism.</p> |
