Systems and devices configured to cool turbine components in a turbine by passing a cooling flow through the turbine component 100 via a cooling passage 110 with a variable diameter are disclosed. In one embodiment, a turbine component 100 includes: at least one elongated cooling passage 110 extending from a root 120 of a turbine bucket to a tip 132 of the bucket, wherein the elongated cooling passage 110 has a variable diameter along a length of the bucket.
