The present invention relates to an organic light emitting diode display device and a method for driving the same, capable of simplifying an overcurrent preventing circuit constitution and reducing a product price while preventing an overcurrent in an image display panel. The organic light emitting diode display device comprises: an image display panel having multiple pixel areas; a data driving unit to drive data lines of the image display panel; an image data converting unit to analyze image data inputted from the outside to prevent an overcurrent by reducing the occurrence possibility of the overcurrent in the image display panel, modulate and output image data and a gray voltage level (or gamma voltage level) of a following frame when the overcurrent occurs; and a timing control unit to align the image data of the image data converting unit to be suitable for the size of the image display panel, supply the image data to the data driving unit, and generate a data control signal to control the data driving unit. |
