The arrangement (1) has a material web (3) and a sensor assembly main unit that are movable relative to one another in a feed direction (x). A measuring device (4) measures the speed (v) of the relative movement in the feed direction of the web and main unit, and transmits corresponding speed measurement signal to an evaluation device (5). The evaluation device reads, stores and evaluates the output signals of the sensor elements (8,9) in dependence upon the speed measurement signal. The output signals of the sensor elements are assembled to form an image of the scan line. The individual sensor elements of each sensor line (6,7) are transversely arranged to the feed direction within a sensor line. The output signals of all sensor elements are fed to the evaluation device.
