In order that the servo-action of a pneumatic servo-unit 17 for hydraulic brakes may become operative with a comparatively light hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder 22, such pressure acting by way of connection 33, chamber 22 and port 53 in the space behind the rear end 51 of the slide valve spool 46, first moves the valve against a light spring 64. Movement of the slide valve spool 46 in chamber 38, then by coupling ports 41 and 42, admits atmosphere to the chamber behind the piston 29 of the servounit which, as shown, is of the " vacuum-suspended " type. The thrust rod 28 is then moved to close, with its end, port 27 in the piston 26 and the subsequent increase of hydraulic pressure in front of the piston is transmitted through passage 58 so as to react on plunger 56, and move it against spring 62, which is stronger than spring 64. The spindle 57 on plunger 56 is thus made to react on the inside face of the slide valve spool and give " feel " to the operator.</p> |
