The method involves detecting an interference signal (102) i.e. background noise, in an interference frequency range by a digital video broadcast (DVB) receiver (101) i.e. DVB-Terrestrial (DVB-T) receiver, by detecting a variable e.g. bit error rate, quantitatively responding to the signal. Control information is transmitted as a broadcast message over the range from the receiver to a power line communication (PLC) adapter (103). A transmit power of the adapter is reduced in the range in response to reception of the control information by the adapter.
