PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent and dissolve clogging of an air nozzle for injecting air for separating a recording material from a fixing action member constituting a fixing nip portion. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus executes a cleaning operation of injecting compressed air to remove dirt from an air nozzle, separately from a peeling operation of injecting compressed air to separate a recording member from a fixing action member. The apparatus executes the cleaning operation on conditions that an image formation reaches the predetermined number of sheets and the recording member is clogged in the apparatus. Further, when executing the cleaning operation by detecting a temperature of the air nozzle and a detection temperature is not more than a predetermined temperature, the apparatus executes the cleaning operation after heating means heats the air nozzle until the detection temperature exceeds the predetermined temperature. When executing the cleaning operation, the apparatus injects compressed air at a flow rate faster than in the peeling operation, preferably intermittently, and while oscillating the air nozzle, and further disposes at least one sheet of the recording member as a dirt reception sheet in a scattering range of dirt from the air nozzle.
