Graft copolymers consisting of a main chain of a vinylidene chloride copolymer and a side chain of a polyethyleneimine are made by mixing an organic solvent solution of the copolymer with a solution of the polyethyleneimine. The speed of reaction may be modified by adding maleic anhydride to the solution of the copolymer or during the formation of the graft copolymer. The exemplified main chain copolymer is of vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile. The solvent for the copolymer is a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone and toluene, and for the polyethyleneimine tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol. Organic solvent solutions of the graft copolymers are used for coating regenerated cellulose films. The solutions may also include waxes such as an ester amide type wax or a microcrystalline wax. The coated films are used for packaging. Specification 590,698, [Group VIII], is referred to.
