The probe (1) comprises a pushbutton having a tactile surface, to which vertical guide profile (4) is rigidly connected. A laser receiver unit has a detector array and a distance evaluation unit, which is slid in the vertical direction on the guide profile. The laser beam (8) is detected by detector array. The vertical distance (VA1) of laser beam relative to laser receiving unit is determined by distance evaluation unit. The vertical distance (VA2) between button and laser receiver unit is determined by path-measuring device. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a measuring system for laser-optical measurement of height of cylindrical roller; and (2) a method for laser-optical determination of actual altitude of strand guide roller.
