The method involves detecting a brake pedal position or a brake pedal actuating force during a brake pedal actuation by a driver. The brake pedal position or brake pedal actuating force is smaller than a predetermined threshold value. A braking torque request is generated from a driver assistance system in response to the driving-dynamic condition of a vehicle and the environmental data. The brake assistance function is deactivated during exceeding of the predetermined threshold value by the brake pedal actuation of driver with respect to brake pedal position or brake pedal actuating force.
