An apparatus for supplying an internal combustion engine 1 with a compressed air charge, the apparatus comprises a first compressing device, such as a turbocharger 5, and a second compressing device, such as an electric supercharger 9. The second device is located downstream of the first device. A part of the second device, such as the bearing assembly 16, is thermally shielded from the heat of the compressed air charge by a labyrinth seal 41. The second device may further comprise a drive assembly separated from the air charge by a seal 29. The labyrinth seal may comprise a stationary part interlocking with a movable part to define a labyrinth therebetween, the movable part being associated with the compressor element such that the movable part is rotatable relative to the stationary part. The labyrinth seal may be a radial seal. |
