In a plate for a filter press in which the liquid to be filtered enters through the material of the frame R, the central part is of reduced thickness and comprises a double filter cloth arranged over a rough central support plate P having a central slot Sp over which the edges of similar slots in the filter cloths project and are secured together. The edges may be secured together before the cloth is applied to the support, one cloth being drawn through the slot to cover the opposite side of the support : the central slot extends over substantially the whole height of the central part.
