The method involves applying a coating (12) over a region of a to-be-coated surface (10) of a coated component (11) made of a magnesium material by performing a thermal spraying process. A mechanical surface treatment process is performed before the thermal spraying process. The thermal spraying is performed with metallic, ceramic and polymeric coating. A decoration coating and an anti-corrosive coating are applied to the to-be-coated surface by thermal spraying.
