<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a client device capable of promptly displaying picture data to be generated by and transferred from a server device and to be displayed on the client device, and provide a server device. <P>SOLUTION: The height Hv of a virtual screen area 10B is set higher than the height Hd of a screen display area 26A, and an upward-scrolling-time border 20u and a downward-scrolling-time border 20d are provided in front of setting width from both upper and lower ends of the virtual screen area 10B. At the time of operating upward scrolling, a request for scrolling in the virtual screen area 10B is transmitted to a server device 10 only when an upper end of the screen display area 26A reaches the upward-scrolling-time border 20u, and at the time of operating downward scrolling, the request for scrolling in the virtual screen area 10B is transmitted only when a lower end of the screen display area 26A reaches the downward-scrolling-time border 20d.
