Compound bearings are produced by applying to a preheated surface a powdered composition comprising a hardenable synthetic resin or a hardenable composition comprising a synthetic resin and a cross-linking agent therefor, in admixture with from 5 to 90 per cent by weight thereof of a particulate filler whose melting-point is substantially in excess of the temperature at which the process is conducted, which has good heat conductivity compared with the synthetic resin and which remains chemically unchanged during the process, securing the composition to the surface by sintering resulting from the pre-heating, and then hardening. The coating may be applied by a dipping, shaking, rolling or whirling process. Suitable resins are phenol-aldehyde resins, methylol compounds of urea and of triazines, and epoxy resins containing cross-linking agents such as phenol-aldehyde resins, polyamines, amino-formaldehyde resins or polycarboxylic acids or their anhydrides. Suitable fillers include titanium dioxide, barium sulphate, red iron oxide, green chromium oxide and solid lubricants such as graphite, molybdenum disulphide, mica or metal powder.ALSO:Compound bearings are produced by applying to a preheated surface a powdered composition comprising a hardenable synthetic resin or a hardenable composition comprising a synthetic resin and a cross-linking agent therefor, in admixture with from 5 to 90 per cent by weight thereof of a particulate filler whose melting-point is substantially in excess of the temperature at which the process is conducted, which has good heat conductivity compared with the synthetic resin and which remains chemically unchanged during the process, securing the composition to the surface by sintering resulting from the pre-heating, and then hardening.
