<p>The present invention relates to a backlight suitable for use in a display device, the backlight comprising: an illumination device (340, 440) with at least one light source (344, 444); and a back reflector stack (200, 320, 420) arranged on a back side of the illumination device (340, 440), the back reflector stack (200, 320, 420) comprising a reflective layer (202) and a transparent layer (204) comprising a plurality of beads (212) each disposed at least partially in a binder layer (214), the beads (212) forming a plurality of light-directing protrusions (206) protruding from the binder layer (204) towards the illumination device (340, 440), wherein the material of the binder layer (204) has a refractive index that deviates by no more than 0.1 from the refractive index of the material of the beads (212), wherein the transparent layer (204) is disposed between the reflective layer (202) and the illumination device (340, 440) with the plurality of light-directing protrusions (206) facing away from the reflective layer (202), and wherein the location and the size and/or the shape of the plurality of light directing protrusions (202) are not correlated to the location and the size and/or shape of any light source (344, 444) of the illumination device (340, 440).</p> |
