The invention relates to an image capturing apparatus, comprising: an electronic image sensor having a plurality of sensor elements, wherein the sensor elements detect light and provide an output representative of the detected light; a digitizing module that converts the output representative of the detected light into a digital format at a rate of at least 23 frames per second; a processor configured to communicate the digitized sensor output onto a digital bus, wherein the digitized sensor output comprises raw digital image data; and a housing that contains the electronic image sensor, the digitizing module, and the processor, wherein the housing comprises: a bus interface configured to electronically connect the digital bus to a detachable recording module; and an engagement mechanism configured to physically fasten the housing with the detachable recording module, the detachable recording module provided with first and second interfaces on opposite surfaces of the detachable recording module , the first interface for electrical and mechanical engagement with the housing, and wherein the raw digital image data is compressed and recorded at a rate of at least about 23 frames per second into the detachable recording module; and wherein the electronic image sensor, the digitizing module, the processor, and the detachable recording module receive power from a power source of a detachable power module, the power module comprising a first interface that is configured to physically fasten the detachable power module with the second interface of the detachable recording module, wherein power is delivered from the power source of the detachable power module to the electronic image sensor, the digitizing module, and the processor via a power bus of the detachable recording module. |
