The battery cell has a housing (11) with a container (13) having an aperture (14) through which winding element is inserted into inner space (33) of housing. The container is designed as a mechanically solid plastic structural element (25). The plastic structural element is provided with a protective layer (29) which encloses inner space of the housing together with cover plate (23) of lid arrangement, so that the protective layer is resistant against the penetration of water and electrolytes into the inner space of housing.
