The method involves applying a metal-containing coating material (24) on a glass or glass ceramic substrate (22a,22b). The glass or the glass-ceramic substrate is burned under the action of heat to burning temperature. The heat generated through a laser radiation is directed to the coating material. The laser radiation is focused linearly on a surface of the glass or glass ceramic substrate. An independent claim is included for a device for preparing the metal-containing coating on glass or glass ceramic substrate.
