<p>A valve train assembly 1 comprising a first rocker arm 3 for pivoting in response to a first rotating cam 8 to open a first engine valve 12 during an engine cycle; a second rocker arm 2 for pivoting in response to a second rotating cam 6 to open a second engine valve 11 during the engine cycle; and a first member 20 for moving in response to the first rotating cam 8 to cause the second rocker arm 2 to pivot in order to open the second valve 11 an additional time during the engine cycle. The assembly allows an intake valve cam 8 to provide an exhaust valve 11 with a smaller lift profile, in addition to its main lift profile, to cause an additional opening of the exhaust valve 11 to provide an internal exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) allowing exhaust gasses to enter the cylinder during the intake part of the engine cycle. Alternatively an opening of the intake valve 12 may be performed during the exhaust cycle.</p> |
