The invention relates to a method for supplementing a sample with specific information. This method comprises the following steps: intrinsically marking a sample (2) by adding a chemical marker (3) having a defined composition to the sample (2); storing (4) data reflecting the composition of the chemical marker (3) and information assigned to the chemical marker (3), wherein this marker-assigned information is not related to the composition of the chemical marker (3) itself; analyzing (6) the sample (2) with an analysis method, wherein the analysis method is suited to detect the composition of the chemical marker (3), to obtain a marker-related result; comparing (7) the marker-related result with the stored data; and assigning (8) the marker-assigned stored information to the sample (2) based on the preceding comparison (7). The invention also relates to a novel use of specific compounds and to a sample tube system for carrying out the method.
