There is provided a contact device with which it is possible to suppress electromagnetic repulsion forces which cause a movable contact to open when current is conducted without increasing the size of the overall configuration, and an electromagnetic contactor using the contact device. The contact device includes a contact mechanism including a pair of fixed contacts disposed maintaining a predetermined distance and a movable contact disposed so as to be able to come into and out of contact with the pair of fixed contacts, wherein the movable contact has in a contact housing case a conductive plate portion extending in a direction crossing a direction in which the movable contact is movable, and wherein each of the pair of fixed contacts is such that an L-shaped portion which generates a Lorentz force opposing an electromagnetic repulsion force generated in an opening direction between the fixed contact and movable contact when current is conducted is formed of an inner side conductor plate portion, one end of which is opposite to one end portion of the conductive plate portion of the movable contact and the other end portion of which extends toward the outside of the contact housing case, and an outer side conductor plate portion, connected to an end portion of the inner side conductor plate portion on the outer side of the contact housing case, which at least extends in a direction in which the movable contact moves away. |
