A method for saving the power of a display device and an apparatus using the same are disclosed. The method for saving power of a display device according to the present invention comprises the steps of receiving the setting of power saving modes by a user; entering one of the power saving modes according to a battery charge state when it is determined that the battery charge state is not of a sufficient condition; and controlling the display device in a manner corresponding to the relevant power saving mode when the display device enters one of the power saving modes. At this time, any one of the power saving modes may reduce a viewport of the display device.
