A method, apparatus and system for reducing download of redundant attachments to a device from a server is provided. A list of identifiers of attachments already stored in a memory at the device is maintained at one or more of the device and the server. Then an attempt to process the attachment occurs: an identifier of an attachment to a message, for transmission from the server to the device, is compared with the identifiers of attachments already stored in a memory at the device; the device is caused to retrieve a copy of the attachment from the memory if a match is found between the identifier and the identifiers of attachments already stored in the memory; and, if no match is found between the identifier and the identifiers of attachments already stored in the memory, the attachment is caused to be transmitted to the device from the server. |
