The present invention relates to a method to decarburize stainless steel in a smelting furnace. The method to decarburize stainless steel includes: an adjusting step whereby the ratio of oxygen and inert gas blown into a molten steel in the smelting furnace is adjusted to that of a carbon content [C]% of the molten steel becomes 0.055-0.08 [C]%; and a completing step whereby only an inert gas is blown into the molten steel of 0.055-0.08 [C]% described above so that the molten steel becomes a molten steel of 0.04-0.48 [C]%.
