The present invention relates to a backlight unit which enables light emission control by a light guide plate, improves a light collecting effect, and can mitigate moire; and a liquid crystal display device comprising the same. The backlight unit according to the present invention comprises: a light source for generating a light; a light guide plate which guides a light through an incident surface facing the light source to emit the light through an emitting surface, and has a lower pattern formed in a prismatic shape by an inclined surface and a sub-inclined surface on a lower surface opposing the emitting surface; and at least one optical sheet to be stacked on the emitting surface.
