The method involves transmitting (E1) a thermal engine type to a controller (21), and providing an angular adjustment position (F1) according to the engine type. A rotary driving shaft of a thermal engine is positioned (E3) at the position. A mechanical component associated with an authorized clearance section is provided at the position by the controller. A functional clearance of the component is measured (E5) for the position. The measured clearance is compared (E6) with the authorized clearance section. The component is maintained (E9) according to the comparison.
