The device has an electronic control circuit (10) comprising a connecting unit (12) for connecting to an accumulator battery (14) for controlling charging the battery and lighting of a light source. A battery protection unit (16) is arranged between the control circuit and the battery to connect the battery to the connection unit. A control module (18) places the protection unit in a state to prevent forwarding of a current from the battery to the control unit through the connection unit in a non-operating mode of the device so that discharging of the battery in the control unit is prevented. The accumulator battery is designed as a standard nickel cadmium battery or a nickel-metal hydride battery. The electronic control circuit is designed as an electronic board.
