Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling a rear lamp of an automobile including an automobile velocity sensor (13) for detecting the velocity of an automobile; and a controller (14) having a function for altering the brightness of a rear lamp (15) in accordance with the velocity of an automobile detected by the automobile velocity sensor (13), and a function for controlling the altering time of the brightness of the rear lamp (15). The controller (14) is capable of controlling the time for altering the current intensity supplied to the rear lamp (15) to reduce the altering time of the brightness of the rear lamp (15) as the velocity of an automobile increases.
